As our guys progress through the 12 Steps, they reach certain points along the way that mark deep spiritual significance. Everyone participates in a ceremony, which celebrates the completion of their third step. This ceremony is held for each resident at our third step shrine along our center's nature trail.
Step Three: "Made a decision to turn our will and our life over to the care of God as we understood him."
In its simplest form, Step Three is really just a decision. In active addiction we often try to control the outcomes of many things beyond our control. This can drive us a bit crazy, make us resentful, and can cause us a lot of grief. In Step Three, we make a decision to stop this practice and to place our faith in our higher power.
Third Step Prayer: "God, I offer myself to Thee, to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy power, Thy will, and Thy way of life."
