12 Step immersion program in Florida

We believe that one of the most important components of making recovery permanent is continued involvement in 12 Step programs. Our curriculum is fully immersive and rooted in the philosophies of programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

The 12 Steps Explained

For decades, people all around the world have found accountability and healing in 12 Step programs. Many people mistakenly believe that you must be a devout Christian to benefit from these teachings – that is not the case. The 12 Step experience is spiritual, not religious. In our immersion program, residents learn to live by guiding principles like honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness. During their stay, they also connect with their Higher Power and understand the role that addiction has played in their lives up until this point. The result? Meaningful, lasting change.

How the 12 Steps Help Keep People Sober

The 12 Steps are a series of life-changing actions which exist in a purposeful order. As one works through the program, they are led to a place of emotional and spiritual maturity. Each step provides insight and the catalyst for inner growth. When followed, the 12 Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous help people to vastly improve the character defects, emotional disturbances, resentments, and self-seeking behaviors that led them to drink and use drugs in the first place.

When a person is addicted, they are more likely to experience a wide array of personal problems. These include…

  • Broken relationships
  • Dishonesty
  • Financial insecurity
  • Isolation
  • Inability to trust others
  • Arrests and legal problems
  • Unemployment
  • Trauma
  • Anxiety, depression, and mood disorders
Through working the 12 Steps, these problems are directly resolved with various spiritual principles like honesty, surrender, brotherhood, and service. It is our mission to help each person who walks through our doors to finish the 12 Steps before leaving Augustine Recovery.

12 Step Involvement as a Cornerstone of Recovery

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith with a primary purpose “to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.” Based on the experiences of millions of addicts and alcoholics who have overcome substance abuse, we have concluded that the 12 Step philosophy is an extremely effective path to recovery.

12 Step immersion is at the core of Augustine Recovery’s treatment philosophy. Many centers will allow patients to get started with the first few Steps; when they leave treatment, these individuals may not actually complete the remainder of the program. We do things differently.

At Augustine Recovery, we ensure that each of our residents completes all of the 12 Steps while staying with us, creating a solid foundation for their continued sobriety. Residents of Augustine Recovery attend daily AA (12 Step) meetings during their treatment, both in-house and in the St. Augustine community.

Upon leaving treatment, 12 Step fellowship and meeting attendance is engrained as a part of their daily lives. This helps keep them sober and supported in all phases of recovery.
