“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of an opportunity to eat badly.”
— Anna Thomas
Addiction takes an incredible toll on the body. In fact, even short-term use of drugs and alcohol can disrupt a person’s immune system, gastrointestinal health, eating habits, and nutrient absorption. When your loved one checks into The Augustine, we provide them with a fresh, balanced diet packed with vitamins, minerals, protein, and other important nutrients. This specialized dietary plan will help them to regain their strength and health in early recovery.
Each substance affects the body differently, but nearly all drugs impact one’s ability to get all the vitamins and minerals needed for health and wellness. Typical symptoms include…
When you consider the reasons stated above, it is not surprising that many people come to treatment with diagnosable malnutrition. This state can worsen mental health issues, create cognitive difficulties, disrupt one’s heart rate, and cause rapid weight loss.
At The Augustine, we know that in order to begin the deep mental and emotional work of recovery, we must also restore your loved one’s physical health. That is why we prioritize a nutrition plan comprised of macro- and micronutrients essential for wellness.
The Augustine is committed to providing the healthiest diet possible for optimal recovery and physical prowess. We keep processed foods to a minimum, and strictly limit white flour and refined sugars. These have proven to be problematic and addictive to those who eat them. The Augustine provides fresh, whole foods to fuel the body during early recovery. Daily diet also consists of fruits and vegetables, some grown in our own garden.
At The Augustine, we provide menus tailored to your loved one’s dietary preferences. Our team happily accommodates vegetarian and vegan diets. Please let us know if your loved one has any dietary restrictions or allergies during the admissions process.
The menu will be practical and duplicable. This is because the residents of the Augustine cook for one another, with staff supervision and guidance. We do not believe that your loved ones need a chef to cook for them. They will benefit much more by learning how to feed themselves in a conscious way for the rest of their lives. Each day a cook crew of three residents is responsible for preparing meals for the community. New residents lean on senior peers for guidance during meal prep, and the community benefits from that daily teamwork.
At The Augustine, we understand how important nutrition is for those in early recovery. Our customized diet plans are tailored to the needs of each person, ensuring that their nutritional needs are met.
