This past weekend during family program, families and residents participated in a really neat art therapy project.
First we had everyone create core value stones with river rocks and magazine clippings. These stones represent their core values. Despite their addiction, these core values remain inside a person, and can be a foundation in which they use to build their recovery.
Then, everyone was asked to burry an object that represented something they had lost in addiction (or as a result of their loved one’s addiction). One resident placed a small mirror in his grave because he had lost himself in his addiction.
Their core value stones were placed on top of the graves, to signify a new beginning.
